For a little while now, I've been trying to up my game when it comes…
And I Thought I Was Cold on Wednesday
So apparently Murphy (you know Murphy, right? He wrote all those laws?) reads this blog and decided to have a little chuckle. Here I was whining about being cold on Wednesday when really, it was nice and toasty in the house – just cold when you had to go out. And so Wednesday night as we were getting ready for bed, I asked my hubby, “Does it seem colder than normal to you?”
He thought for a moment before nodding. The heater was running–had been for quite a while, in fact. So he went into the utility room to poke around. I got busy washing my face and brushing my teeth and all that good stuff. When he came back upstairs a few minutes later, the verdict was that the furnace had given up the ghost.
Trigger the quandary. Do you go wake up the kids and bundle them off into the car to someone else’s house (thank the Lord we have options nearby!)? Do you just try and drop another blanket on them? Do you bring them into your bed so you can all just huddle together for warmth?
In the end, we went with extra blankets. Thankfully they both slept through the application thereof – though I was paranoid and woke up every 90 minutes or so to go check that they hadn’t kicked them off and were still sleeping soundly.
Thursday morning the house was 58 (not horrid, but not warm) and the repair guy was able to get here by 9, replace the ignitor, and be on about his day by 9:45. But we’re going to have to replace it pretty soon – he did an inspection while he was here and there are parts that are starting to show their age (the thing’s original to the house, so 14 years old.)
And that was our adventure for the week. Anyone else have a fun adventure they want to share?
