Author Photos

Part of setting up this website, as well as putting together a few of the proposals I’m working on right now, has been the more-difficult-than-you’d-expect process of choosing an author photo. I’m not what I’d consider camera shy, but I’m also not sure that I’m what I’d consider overly photogenic. I’ll never be a ravishing beauty (honestly, how many of us will?), but I think “cute” applies – and I don’t really have any issues with the idea of being considered cute.

Still, as I dug through the photos on my computer, I began to realize that I don’t have a ton of photos of myself. I tend to be the one behind the camera around here. Those photos that I am in all tend to also have at least one of the boys in them. And while my boys are adorable, they’re probably not a good addition to my author photo.

The first thing I decided to do after this realization was set up the tripod and take a few pictures. This sparked an on-going hunt for the camera. Neither my husband or I can recall seeing it since we were at the baseball field for opening day last weekend. Did we drop it? I’ve torn the car apart, dumped out my purse and the diaper bag and everything else I can think of to no avail. More than the potential loss of the camera, what’s really bugging me is that I hadn’t downloaded the Easter pictures to my computer yet and we took some lovely pictures of the family all dressed up for church.

Pushing aside that irritation, I called my sister, took the time to actually do more to my hair than squeeze it with a towel, put on eyeliner and mascara for the first time in…a while, and headed out to have her take some pictures. When all was said and done, we got some great shots. Except for one little thing: apparently I’ve been walking around in the completely wrong shade of foundation for at least six months.

After much finagling, I found a new shade of foundation that I think works. I do not look dead (tried one that was much too pale), on fire (even pinker than what I was wearing), or like I have a questionable relationship with self-tanner. So we headed out to take more photos…right as the weather changed from a lovely, sunny morning to a slightly overcast, windy afternoon. The best take has my hair blowing into my eyes, it’s a look, but again, not really what I was going for.

So for now, you get a photo that’s about four years old. The only thing that’s really changed is my hair, so it’ll do, but I’m hoping to have something new (current! With a more flattering haircut!) soon.
