Back to School

Everything around here seems to be screaming about it being Back to School time. Since we homeschool, this is less of an issue for our family, but it still heralds many busy days ahead. Scouts is ramping up, Awana is nearly ready to start, the kids’ll be changing Sunday School rooms (and oh, the drama that accompanies that most years. Even though the same group of kids is involved, there is great nervousness about the new room and the new teacher!) Probably all the same things (or same kinds of things) you’ve faced at Back to School time in your own life at some point.

It’s interesting to see this time of year as an adult. As a kid, I was always pretty excited about going back to school (at least in my memory, I was. My mom may call and correct me later today.) I loved school. Still do, to be honest. Learning is fun. I love that I get to experience it with my kids now.

And yet, as I get older, this time of year is bittersweet. It’s a reminder that the years seem to go by faster and that if I blink, I’m likely to miss something. So for me, I’m trying to focus this year on using this time to slow down and savor the little things in each day.
