Book Review: A Promise to Protect
In Liz Johnson’s latest Love Inspired Suspense novel, A Promise to Protect, we meet Ashley Sawyer and Matt Waterstone. Ashley is working at a women’s shelter, helping battered women and their kids as they try to start a new life away from their abusers. Matt Waterstone is Ashley’s brother’s best friend and a Navy SEAL sidelined as he recovers from an injury. When someone begins threatening Ashely and the women at the shelter, Matt steps in to see if he can help. Though he knows Ashley’s brother will be angry, Matt is unable to protect his heart from the feelings Ashley stirs.
This is another fast-paced and delightful read by Liz Johnson. It’s the first in what I believe she’s said is going to be several with Navy SEALs as the main heroes. I have to admit to being a sucker for a SEAL story, so I know I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for the next one. In addition to the great romance between Matt and Ashely, the story delves into the subject of abusive relationships and other topics that you don’t often see addressed in the shorter romantic novels that Love Inspired publishes. Due to the length, there’s not deep exploration of the topics, but there’s enough to make you stop and think and, hopefully, spur you to do some more reading and find ways to help.
*Note: I did receive this book for free from the author, but I just promised to read and review it – if I hadn’t like it, I would have said so.
