For a little while now, I've been trying to up my game when it comes…

Book Review: Fearless
I just finished reading Fearless: The Undaunted Courage and Ultimate Sacrifice of Navy SEAL Team SIX Operator Adam Brown. What an incredible story – made all the more incredible by the fact that it’s true. This book tells the story of Adam Brown, a Navy SEAL who was killed in action in Afghanistan on March 17, 2011. But it also, and perhaps more importantly, tells the story of God’s grace and power.
Adam’s life started out close to perfect. He had a good family and a solid upbringing and was on his way to a solid life. Then, to impress a girl, he started experimenting with drugs, ultimately ending up a crack addict who would steal from anyone (especially his family) for the next fix. Through this, his parents came to Christ and, with the support of their church, were able to stop bailing Adam out and allow him to hit rock bottom. In jail, Adam came to know Christ.
That didn’t make it all sunshine and roses though. Adam’s struggle with crack continued, even as he worked hard to get his life back on track, enlisting in the Navy and making his way through SEAL qualification. He was injured more times than it would take most people to quit, but through it all, Adam held to the belief that he was finally where God wanted him to be.
In addition to the heroic acts Adam performed while on mission, he also reached out to the children of Afghanistan, providing shoes (and encouraging those he knew at home to help) and other things we so easily take for granted. Through it all, Adam’s commitment to Christ comes through loudly in the words spoken of him by his SEAL team and any others he encountered along the way. Adam Brown truly demonstrates what it is to be a hero.
