Book Review: Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek is H.L. Wegley’s debut novel. It takes us along with Lee Brandt as he uncovers suspicious computer activity at his workplace (where classified data is handled). He enlists the help of computer forensics genius Jennifer Akihara, who quickly finds and shuts down the unauthorized access and, in so doing, unleashes a terrorist kill-squad on Lee and herself. They flee to the caves of Lee’s youth and begin a dangerous game of hide and seek with the people who want them dead.

I enjoyed the premise of the book and the fact that Wegley didn’t shy away from using technical terminology that might be unfamiliar to those who aren’t in the world of computers. There was a sufficient amount of action, as well, that kept the story moving along. Some of the conversations between Lee and Jennifer verge on preachy and I found the romance between the two of them difficult to understand since they don’t appear to like or respect one another, they just have chemistry. Despite that it was an entertaining way to fill a few hours.
