Comedy Gold

Last weekend, my husband and I went to see Tim Hawkins live as a delayed anniversary outing. We’ve enjoyed seeing comedians together before, though I say that like we go a lot. We don’t. We’ve been to see Brian Regan twice. Still, the various Facebook shares of amusing Tim Hawkins skits convinced me that we’d enjoy spending an evening with him and 3,498 of our closest friends. (Which is to say, the sold out venue held 3,500, and we were two of the people packed like sardines into the pews. Pews! What kind of event venue has pews!?) Even still, it was a jolly time and there was much laughter – most of the time because of the jokes, but sometimes simply because the woman wedged in next to me kept elbowing me in the ribs when she found something particularly amusing. If I’d know her from Adam, I would have understood this behavior. As it was…well…it was odd. But amusing.

Even more fun was John Crist. I’d never heard of him before, but he definitely gives Tim Hawkins a run for his money in the make-your-sides-hurt-from-laughing department.

So, should you have a chance to see either one live, I’d heartily recommend you seize the chance. Consider it your ab workout for the weekend.
