Contemplating Chicks

I promise, I’m not turning into a farming blog. But! One of the other cool things I found while investigating the CSA my friend recommended was that you can raise chicks for them — and then give them back when they’re grown. All I can think is, “Wouldn’t that be the coolest homeschool science-y type project?”

My cousin has chickens. So does one of hubby’s cousins. I’d love to have some as we eat eggs. A lot of eggs. But alas, the county doesn’t allow it where we live.

But the idea of raising chicks…it sounds like a lot of fun. (And a lot of work. I get excited about the cute fluffy chicks and then I think about poop and feeding and keeping them warm…it’s not as if I’m completely unaware of the level of work that might go into the cool science-y project. But still.)

Have you ever raised chicks? Pros? Cons?
