Day Tripping

This weekend, I loaded the boys and my sister in the car, and we wandered off to the western part of the state to see Swannanoa Palace. It’s a lovely, if somewhat dilapidated, mansion from the 1920s, and it’s open only occasionally during the summers. The first time I read anything about it, I knew I wanted to get out and see it.

It was a bit of a drive, but so worth it. The mansion is lovely from the outside — though you can see its age and how it’s desperately in need of love (which unfortunately is probably prohibitively expensive.) It’s marble and grand and just…amazing. Inside is fantastic as well, though again you have to imagine the beauty that was once there.

We’d planned to stop at Montpelier on our way back, but there was a GPS hiccup and we overshot it by quite some time before we realized. So that’ll have to be another trip another day.

But it was lovely to get out and see things that were new to me. Do you enjoy day trips?
