Deep in the Throes of NaNo

When I sat down a couple of weeks ago and seriously plotted out what I’m hoping to publish in 2017, I quickly realized that NaNoWriMo (that’s National Novel Writing Month) was going to be a necessity. Most of what I’m putting out in 2017 is going to either start as part of a boxed set with other authors or it’s part of a special project that I can *almost* talk about but involves coordinating with other authors. And both of those mean more concrete deadlines than I usually put on myself.

My first book, Wisdom to Know, was a NaNo project. And I’ve pretty much not bothered with NaNo since then. November is a terrible month for it in my world. Thanksgiving plus Awana plus homeschooling…it’s just a tricky month to try and force words every day. Which is why this year I’m focusing on weekdays and giving myself the weekends “off.” So, my aim is 2500 words a day M-F. Then I can catch up on the weekend if need be. Or get a little ahead if I have the time.

So far, that’s working out pretty well and the book is coming along. Now I just have to hope that it’s sustainable for the entire month. ‘Cause I really need to get a solid first draft by the 30th.
