Do You Care How a Book’s Cover Feels?

KinsaleKissesFrontWhen I released Kinsale Kisses in paperback, I went ahead and chose the matte cover. I’d recently read two indie books that both had the matte cover and had loved how they felt when I was holding them. Plus, they looked great — less shiny (duh) and …I dunno. I liked them. So it seemed an obvious choice when I did my own indie release to go that route.

Well, I just got the box of copies I ordered and I’m a little nonplussed by the matte cover. It still has the silky feel of the other two but something’s not quite as wonderful as I was expecting. I wonder if maybe the matte cover works better for drawn covers (vs images). When I think back, both of those books were drawn. So that could, potentially, be the “problem.”

I still love my cover, fret not. But these copies are probably the last of the matte ones – I plan to sneak back into CreateSpace shortly and tick “glossy” instead.

Does the cover feel matter to you? More or less than the look of the cover?

  1. I prefer matte covers. I don’t know. There’s just something about glossy covers I don’t like. And it really doesn’t have much to do with the way they feel, I just prefer the way matte covers look. That’s just me….:)
