For a little while now, I've been trying to up my game when it comes…

Feeling Fall-Like
I’m in the mood for fall and the weather’s not really cooperating. So to try and get in the spirit of things, today we swapped out our spring/summer wreath with our fall wreath for the front door. And then, doing some Pinterest browsing, I happened on something that looked fun, cute, and easy to do with the boys. And thus began our quest for stuffed turkeys.
I initially thought we’d just upcycle a few of our older fleece blankets from when the boys were babies, but looking through the limited options nixed that idea. Who wants a turkey with dancing pastel elephants as the body? So…we hit up the fabric store for some fleece. This, in itself, was a trial. They had no fall-like fleece anywhere I could find. And I had my heart set on something fall-y (bright oranges and deep reds and golds all mushed together – you know the color scheme!) But, since that was nowhere to be found, I let my older son choose – the turkeys were for the boys anyway – and so …camouflage. Not quite as fall-like as I’d hoped, but, well, I guess it’ll keep them from becoming someone’s Thanksgiving dinner.
The instructions were simple – and tracing the boys’ feet for the head/neck priceless (plus it eased the older boy’s fear of how they’d tell them apart. It’s important to know when you’re stealing your brother’s turkey, after all.)
I did do a little fiddling – I decided to sew on the faces rather than glue them (I’ve never had a good experience gluing fabric. Doesn’t matter the kind of glue…and I know my boys. Glue just wasn’t going to cut the kind of love these turkeys are going to get. Also, for the little one, I sewed the body cavity shut. He loves to untie our fleece blankets and I could just see him working those knots and spreading polyfill all over creation. He’d love it, no doubt. Me? Not so much.)
And then? Voila!
