For a little while now, I've been trying to up my game when it comes…
It Never Ceases To Amaze Me
I’m nearly done with the final edits on Love Defined. I’m always surprised at the little things my editor catches – things that I don’t understand how I let get through before I sent it to her. I’m grateful she finds them, don’t get me wrong, but really it’s bizarre to me that I didn’t catch them before that.
On the other hand, it’s a rare day that I don’t come across a typo or a homophone issue in a book I’m reading. Not just the indie books, either, but the big name publishers. And it doesn’t bother me a bit. I think it’s simply a matter of understanding that books are put out by people. And yes, tens of people will put their eyes all over that book before it’s deemed finished. And they’ll do everything within their power to make sure that there aren’t typos and so forth in the book. But, at the end of the day, things slip through. It’s just the way it is.
You know what else continues to amaze me though? That people feel like typos and so forth are things that need to be mentioned in book reviews. (Thankfully none of mine have had that problem, yet, but it’s probably just a matter of time. I know there are typos in there just waiting to be found!) So here’s my two cents worth of advice – unless the book is so riddled with errors that you simply can’t read it, don’t obsess about the editing of a finished book. The time to obsess is during the editing process — and believe me, we do! But things slip through. And that’s okay.

THANK YOU!!! Great point!! I must admit, I get a small twinge of wicked delight when I come across some such error – takes much pressure off of my work!! heehee
When Tessa was first released in Kindle format, I did not catch or notice a particular misspelling: “lightening.” It had the blue squiggly line in Word but I just missed it!! It wasn’t until I was reading through the Kindle version that I noticed it! LOL I have since correct it, of course!!
thanks for a great post!!!
