Movies with the kids

Most weekends, we tend to have one night at home that’s a family movie night. Often, we try to come up with something that we’ll all enjoy – so we’ve revisited old favorites from when my hubby and I were kids like Flight of the Navigator and Labyrinth. But other times, the perennial favorites are requested (urgently requested!) by the kiddos and so we watch Star Wars (any of them – though lately the eldest has been on a New Hope and Empire Strikes Back kick, which frankly, I’m okay with as the newer ones still make me cringe. Oh! The awful acting! And sure, that’s probably what my parents said about the “original” trilogy, but hey.) I have to admit, I’m pretty glad that we’ve moved on from endless repetition of Cars and Cars 2 (though Planes and Planes Fire & Rescue still make frequent appearances — and really, Cars isn’t bad, just the 9 millionth time, when you can pretty much recite it backwards…it’s time for something new.)

And so, since every time we consider movie night, my husband and I cast about for ideas of what to show, I thought I’d ask for recommendations. Any favorites that would be appropriate for a 3 and 7 year old? (The 3 year old doesn’t usually hang around much, he’s in and out while he plays, which is how we get away with Star Wars, but nothing more action-y/scary than that.) Nostalgic movies are definitely a plus! Hit me!
