New Webdesign and August Goal

I’m not 100% sure that I’m finished tweaking the new site design, but by and large I’m pleased with what I’ve been able to accomplish so far. I seriously considered hiring the job out, even went so far as to look at places that do such thing with an eye toward hiring someone. And then I saw the estimated cost ranges and died a little inside. With my book releasing in January, I think I’d rather save my pennies for a few advertising efforts and just take the time to do the web stuff myself. Especially since I’m perfectly capable of doing the latter and the former is…less in my milieu.

(Side note: I love the word milieu. Also? Foible.)

I’m participating in the Novel Writing Track loop (part of ACFW) again this month. I’ve set my goal slightly lower this go-round: just 25,000 words. But — my goal for the goal is to actually finish those words mid-month. My thought process is that another 25K puts my book at right around 75K, which is, roughly “The End”. (Obviously I’ll keep writing if that doesn’t happen to neatly align with the end — the real, overarching goal is to finish the book. Then I get to start revising it.)

Since the tentative release for book 2 is March 2013, I need to have the final version to my editor in October — the sooner the better. And that means I need to get going with it as there are several stages I need to get through with it before it’s ready for my editor to have a whack at it. (And she whacks. Oh, does she whack. But it’s always better for it. Growing a thick skin is probably the hardest part of being a writer.)
