Song Lyrics Crop Up Wherever You Look

It’s May first. Aside from having to stop and ask myself where the year is going (because, really, it’s May?!? How did that happen??) I find myself singing songs from the musical Camelot today. It all starts, of course, with “It’s May! It’s May! The lusty month of May!” But once Camelot wiggles its way into my brain, it’s very unusual for it to wiggle out without at least a few rousing choruses of Camelot and If Ever I Would Leave You.

But it’s not just May that brings lyrics to mind. I find that I frequently reply to my kids (and ok, to my husband) in song. It can be snippets from something off the radio today, something from the radio growing up, a musical (and oh, how I love musicals – so there are lots of possibilities rambling around in my head), or what have you. Sometimes I change up the words to work better, but most often I can come up with a snippet that fits without modification. My husband tells me this makes me odd (it’s just one of many things that does that, so I’m not overly worried. He loves me, oddity and all.) but I disagree. Surely everyone does this.

Right?
