For a little while now, I've been trying to up my game when it comes…
Tilt-a-Whirls and Mud – Lots of Mud
It’s hard to figure out where to draw the line between this being a professional website (because, yes, it is!) and sharing little bits about my life. I know for me, as a reader, I’m always curious about the personal lives of authors I enjoy. (Is that just me?)
We recently went on a mini-family vacation. It was only four days, mostly because we hadn’t traveled with both boys since we brought the younger home and I was a little wary of the whole issue of keeping bottles clean while living in a hotel. So we wandered up to Hershey, PA in order that our older boy might experience the joy of an amusement park for the first time. There was chocolate galore (my favorite part of the trip) and tilt-a-whirls (my second favorite part of the trip) and other various enjoyment. The younger boy, being only seven months old, had considerably less to say about it, but he smiled a lot, so we figured it was a success.
Since my husband took the whole week off and we were, effectively, only gone for the weekend, he’s been spending a ton of time out in the back yard with the older boy working on a fort. Our yard has a hill that is somewhere between a cliff and just a really steep hike, so there is much digging involved. The husband is not enjoying that quite as much as the boy (who is, as I type, covered in red mud from the top of his head to the bottoms of his shoes. I’m not sure how I’m going to get him into the bathtub without undoing all the vacuuming I did yesterday.)
It’s a lovely thing, though, to slow down for a week and just hang out with the family – let the hustle and bustle of “normal life” wait on the sideline and just be together, whether we’re spinning around wildly or covered in mud.
