For a little while now, I've been trying to up my game when it comes…
Wanderlust, Inspired by Writing
I just finished a novella set in Kinsale, Ireland. (Well, and other bits of the surrounding Cork county.) When I’ve got it edited, I plan to submit it to a publisher who has a series of novellas set in overseas locales, but since I love it so much, if it’s not something they want, I suspect I’ll self-publish it. So, given that it will be available in one way or another at some point, I thought I’d share a few photos that I dug up as part of my research (which is to say, refreshing my memory from our two vacations to Ireland.) Overall, digging through my photos and scrapbooks has left me desperate for another trip to Ireland. It was nice to at least get to visit virtually.
Today I’m going to spotlight Charles Fort. It’s an old fort very close to Kinsale, unique for it’s pentagon shape. There are several building still somewhat intact, along with a lot of the wall that you can traverse. What’s best, though, in my mind, are the views of the bay (usually full of sailboats, though not in this photo) that you get from the edge of the cliff that forms one of the sides.
This is a view of Charles Fort from the top of the hill as you arrive from the parking area. It’s a nice overview of what you’ll be exploring.
These are the barracks (below) – the entire outside is still standing, but inside is just a grassy field.
Another good overview of the fort structure, taken from the wall.

I’m REALLY excited to read your novella! I’m a United Kingdom FREAK and I love almost anything set there.
Yay! I’ll admit to being a severe Ireland fanatic- and I’m rapidly becoming a Scotland fanatic as I start planning a trip for, hopefully, 2015.
Love the pics.
