What are you reading?

Feels like it’s been a while since I asked what you’re reading–and I’m in-between books right now, so it’s a great time to ask for some recommendations. I’ll share some of mine in return. I’ll even go first!

  • By the Waters of Kadesh, a Biblical fiction novel about the spies in Canaan is free for Kindle right now and it’s REALLY good. I got to read a pre-release copy and can’t recommend it highly enough.
  • I just finished re-reading The Deed of Paksinarrion, by Elizabeth Moon. It’s older (and titled as such is a trilogy packaged in a single book) but it’s about the only high fantasy I re-read with any regularity. As it is, I re-read this one maybe every 14-18 months. And I still bawl like a baby at the end (good tears) – it leaves me feeling fuzzy and content inside. (It’s not a Christian novel, but it’s clean.)
  • Also in the not Christian but mostly clean (there’s a bit of language), Matthew Iden’s Marty Singer novels are delightful and I’m hoping he’ll be putting out another one soon. Start with A Reason to Live. They’re police procedurals, effectively, though the main character is retired. But they’ve got a lot of heart as well. Plus they’re set in DC, so for me it’s fun to read about places I could actually find in my car.
  • If you like historical fiction, I recently read God’s Daughter by Heather Day Gilbert. It’s a beautifully written Viking novel.
  • Finally, if you’re in the mood for romance, Raspberries and Vinegar by Valerie Comer is a fun little romp with lots of information on organic farming and sustainable living. I haven’t picked up book 2 in the series yet, but it’s on my list.

Your turn!
