Why I Break the Cardinal Rule

Everyone will tell you that if you want people to read your blog, you need to have pictures in your posts. (And, as a side note, please people, please, the whole shooting match is called a blog, the individual pieces you write? Those are posts. Not blogs.) Apparently they draw the eye and get the reader more involved and so on and so forth.

I guess I can see the point…pictures are nice, it’s an extra thousand words, etc. But…and here’s the big issue for me, if you’re going to do it right, you have to spend an awful lot of time making sure that the image you choose is something you can actually use with stomping on someone else’s copyright. Frankly, I just can’t bring myself to invest that kind of time.

And so, no pictures for my posts unless they happen to be a photo I’ve taken myself.

This cautionary tale is worth a read. (And it’s seriously making me rethink using Pintrist.)
