For a little while now, I've been trying to up my game when it comes…

Wrapping Up Summer
Can you believe this week is the last week of July!? August around here always seems crazy with the back-to-school sales starting up and traffic hitting a major crescendo as everyone leaves for their last minute vacations. Then traffic keeps being terrible as college kids start trucking up and down the Eastern Seaboard to get to orientation and returning students getting there a few days early to get set up.
You’ll note that a lot of those things revolve around traffic. Living close to I-95 will do that for you.
We took the month of July completely off from school-type activities (and most of June, honestly), but I think we’re ready to start easing back into the swing of things. So I dug out the handwriting book that we’ll be using this year and one of the science electives I picked up and we’re going to start looking at those this week. Maybe not every day, but two or three times a week. I also want to start doing a few “formal” things with the baby – just shapes and letters, nothing serious, but I did a lot more with his older brother than I do with him. (Yeah, the second child always gets short shrift. I know this because I am one. 😉 )
I’m also facing down my deadline for the romance novella I’ve been writing. In August, I HAVE to switch back to my December release. That final deadline is looming and, while the break has been great for my creative juices, I can only play so long. I hope I’m able to finish up the novella, I’m enjoying it and I think it needs to see the bright light of day at some point.
Finally, we’re gearing up for the new AWANA year. It’ll be my second year as Commander and I have to say I’m much more relaxed about it this year than I was last year! I’m making a few tweaks to the way we do things and I’m hopeful that it’ll make for a slightly smoother club. (Not that last year was bad, but there were a few things that could have gone better.)
What about you – any plans for wrapping up your summer?
