Are You a Movie Goer?

moviesI love watching movies. All kinds of movies. I love a good cheesy, made for TV movie (Sharknado, anyone?) or a movie that probably should be more realistically called a “film.” It’s a handy thing that my husband also enjoys movies. But for all that, we don’t go to the theater all that often.

For one thing, it’s crazily expensive. By the time you get tickets and popcorn (you have to have popcorn!) and a soda to share (again, a necessity), you could’ve eaten at a really nice restaurant. And now that we have kids, you have to throw a sitter into the mix (unless we can con a relative into watching them–thankfully we often can do just that) and, well…you start to wonder if it’s possible for a movie to be good enough to warrant that. Particularly when you have a theater in your basement.

And that’s the second “problem” — we have a theater in the basement. So it’s tough to motivate us out to uncomfortable seats and a crowded room (with people talking, texting, crying, whatever) when we could wait and watch it on demand in six months from the joyous and silent comfort of our own recliners. Now with bonus pausing when you need a potty break! (Or, in the case of the first Hobbit movie, a pause for six weeks while you recover from the insomnia induced by the insanely boring movie.)

Even so, with my hubby and I approaching an anniversary and the thought of an evening (or afternoon) out sans kiddos, I’ve been mulling the movie possibilities and wondering what, if anything, I’d be willing to shell out the cash for. Guardians of the Galaxy looks like it’d be up our alley. And I loved The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, so Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one I want to see. But I’m not sure either are necessary theater visits, you know? Same for the latest in the Transformers series – we’ll see it at some point but…no urgency there. Really, the next movie I’m looking forward to is The Maze  Runner (followed by Mockingjay part 1.)

What about you? Anything out (or coming soon) that you’re excited to see?
