Exploring My Girly Side

I will be the first to admit that I am not girly. This may come as a shock to you, since I write romance (and I love it! And I love to read it!) But I’m really pretty low maintenance and un-girly. I don’t adore pink (though I do adore purple – but dark purple.) I don’t like dresses or frills or lace or any of those things. Give me jeans and a t-shirt and I’m good. (Or a flannel hoodie. My sister refuses to be seen with me when I pull out my college flannel hoodie, but it’s so comfy. Mmm.) I like thick socks and comfy shoes.

So with that in mind, I was somewhat surprised when a friend (one who knows me in real life and everything) invited me to her Jamberry party. Do you know about these things? They’re essentially stickers for your fingernails. Here’s my theory on fingernails: clip them as short as you can without getting below the point where they hurt. Sometimes (like once a year) I might poke at a cuticle with my thumbnail if I’m bored. Seriously. Manicures are just not my thing. Nail art? Ha. Right up there with tattoos. But ok, it was an online party so what did it hurt?

I have to say, they have some cute designs. And because I like my friend I placed an order – after all, if I hated them (sure, I’d try them once) I could let the boys use them as stickers. Expensive stickers to be sure, but whatever. So far, though, they’re kind of fun and don’t look too ridiculous on my very short nails. And it made me push down my cuticles which will make my mom happy. (Wins all around!)

I don’t see myself becoming an obsessive manicure girl, but it’s been kind of fun to play.
